We recognise everything we have comes from God.

One way to respond to God’s generosity to us is by giving financially. If you feel called to give in this way, there are several options available.

Ways to give

Why Give

Our giving is primarily a response to the generosity of God, who: “loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). We give because God is a generous giver and, as we consider giving, we recognise that everything we have is a gift from God: “Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” (1 Chronicles 29:14). So, our giving is part of our discipleship, part of our worship. It’s about recognising that Jesus is Lord of every part of our lives. It’s from this starting point that we prayerfully consider giving to support the Great Commission that Jesus gives us to make disciples.

Our giving should reflect not only our willingness to give, but also our

ability to give. A starting point when reflecting on our Christian giving is

that we should give in proportion to what we ourselves receive from God

i.e. in proportion to our income. At Christ Church we follow the practice of tithing. This has Biblical origins and the “tithe” literally means a tenth. But, above all, our giving should be made thankfully (Colossians 3:17), discreetly (Matthew 6:3-4)& regularly (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

Regular Giving

We encourage donors to give via the very popular Parish Giving Scheme. It is a secure and efficient Direct Debit system operated by a Church of England initiative now adopted by the majority of dioceses. Further details can be found on the PGS website.

PGS may not be for everyone, and giving by Standing Order is also very welcome!
You can contact our Treasurer on treasurer@cca.uk.net for the details. Please reference your donations with ‘Church Giving’ or ‘Tithe’ as this helps us distinguish between general giving and Foodbank donations.

You can give using either the Charity Aid Foundation (CAF number 000279502) or a Stewardship Giving Account (number 08634939)

Check with your employer as some companies match the employee’s giving. You will need to use CAF for this facility.

Online Giving

If you wish to give online, for a one-off donation or a more regular gift for a specific purpose or project, please give online through ChurchSuite and follow the instructions on the page (this has transaction fees, but is useful for one-off gifts or giving for a specific purpose / project)

Giving in Church

We don’t pass around a collection plate during our Sunday services, but there is an opportunity to give in a collection box at the back of church. We are also able to accept donations by debit or credit card via a kiosk located next to the collection box. Individual cheques and CAF/ Stewardship vouchers are welcome – please make them payable to “North Abingdon PCC Christ Church”

Gift Aid

If you pay UK income tax or capital gains tax, the church can reclaim the tax you’ve already paid. This means we get an extra 25% at no additional cost to you. To gift aid future donations or any donations made in the past 4 years, please fill out the declaration form found here.

Legacies

Once you have made provision for your loved ones in your will, you have the opportunity to make a lasting gift to God by leaving a legacy to His Church. A gift in your will to Christ Church means you can continue to support our mission and ministry. A gift can be an expression of your gratitude and thanksgiving towards God. Legacies will be designated to a capital redevelopment fund. Please ask for more details.

Finances

Visitors to the church are under no obligation to give.

If you have any questions about giving to Christ Church, please e-mail treasurer@cca.uk.net.

Christ Church Abingdon is registered charity number 1153844. A full financial report, audited accounts and annual budget are published each year and made available at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting. The elected PCC scrutinises and authorises expenditure throughout the year.

15% of the money received by Christ Church is given away to support mission beyond the parish, in the UK and overseas. Occasionally we will take up special offerings in the event of a disaster or a missionary endeavour, etc. These are taken up in addition to our regular giving.
