Our Ministries in the community
Abingdon Foodbank
Set up to meet the needs of people who are going through a period of crisis and are struggling to feed themselves and their families. This crisis may come in many forms, for example as redundancy, ill-health, family break-up or just unexpected large bills. The Foodbank is run by a team of volunteers from Christ Church and other churches in the Abingdon area. It’s a practical way of sharing God’s love in the local community. Anyone in need in the community who has been referred to the Foodbank is welcome to receive food packages, regardless of their faith or creed.
The Barns Café
The Barns Café opened in 2013 following Christ Church’s renovation of the dilapidated barns. It offers a great location, with a ground floor seating area and two further mezzanine spaces, onsite parking and disabled access. Extended indoor seating is currently available Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings offering a great space for families with young children. The free wifi also makes the café an ideal place to come for remote workers needing a change of scenery!
Opening Times: Monday – Friday 9am – 4:30pm, Saturdays 10am – 2pm
International Welcome
International Welcome began as a support for Ukrainian refugees but has since grown into a vibrant community of 40–45 people meeting each week, gathering for language learning, cultural exchange, and friendship for refugees, asylum seekers, and internationals from around the world who have now found themselves in Abingdon. Jointly organised by Host Abingdon and Christ Church, and supported by a generous team of volunteers, the sessions remain free for all who attend.
International Welcome runs from 1pm-2:30pm every Friday during term time.
